Maddox ?-1901 or 1906
One of Quantrill's first
recruits in 1862. Brother of Richard "Dick" Maddox. Was a participant
in Lawrence, Kansas on August 21, 1863 as well as at Baxter Springs, October
6, 1863.
Captured February 8, 1866 and kidnapped across the border to Lawrence
to stand trial. Was acquitted.
Moved to Nevada, Missouri and worked for the railroad. He then moved to
Jefferson City, Missouri and in 1887 worked as a guard at the Missouri
State Penitentiary.
According to the February 8, 1901 Lee's Summit Journal, Maddox died on
January 4, 1901 and is buried in Jefferson City, Missouri. But the April
5, 1901 issue said he was still alive. Other sources say he died on July
28, 1906.
