Big Tree - Kiowa

Big Tree 1845-1929

Big Tree (A'DO-EETTE) was born in 1845 in Kiowa tribe, he belonged to "Kata" band of Dohasan.
His brother Dangerous Eagle was also a famous war-chief.
After "Medicine Lodge" treaty of 1867, he refused to live in a reservation and decided to fight.
In 18 May 1871, together Satanta and Satank, he participated with them in the battle of "Warren Wagontrain": his band was first to attack. For this episode, he was arrested and imprisoned to the Huntsville (Texas). In 19 August 1873 he was set free. In 19 September 1874 he, Satanta and 200 warriors attacked a conwoy of 36 wagons escorted by 6th Cavalry of Gen. Miles; they besieged the soldiers for 3 days, before retreated themselves. In 30 September 1874 he surrendered at the Fort Sill, becoming chief of the Kiowa's reservation and opposing to the new doctrines of prophets P'oinka (1887) and Wovoka (1890).
In 1897 he became a member of the Baptiste Church.
He had only one wife and two daughters.
He died in 13 November 1929 at Anadarko (Oklahoma).
