Four Bears - Two Kettle / Sioux (Lakota)
Joseph Four Bears 1834-1909

Four Bears (Mato Topa) was born in 1834 and married the daughter of chief White Horse. He was a member of the Fool Soldier band that rescued the Shetak captives 1862. He established the Four Bear camp about 16 miles north of the agency and lived until 1909. This photo was taken c. 1870 by B.H. Gurnsey.
